C.W. Mundy was born and raised in Indianapolis. He graduated with a fine-art degree and a secondary-education teaching degree from Ball State University (Muncie, IN). He later went on to pursue an M.F.A. at Long Beach State (California).
In the early 1990s, Mundy took on the challenge of painting in the impressionistic style of en plein air, from life. This led the artist on a series of European painting trips, the first of which was an extended excursion to France in 1995, followed by trips to Italy, England, Spain, the Mediterranean Coast, Vienna, Prague, Eastern Europe, and more. These adventures were accented by frequent plein air trips to the coasts and harbors of the United States, which further fueled his love of the landscape, sea, and coastal vistas.
In 2003 Mundy was invited into the Oil Painters of America’s Master Signature membership, and in 2007 he achieved Master status in The American Impressionist Society. In 2013, Mundy was invited to Signature membership in the prestigious California Art Club. He was honored in 2015 to be elected as Fellow in the American Society ofMarine Artists. Mundy’s recent awards include a Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America’s 2016 International Portrait Competition and Finalist in the Portraiture, Still Life, and Landscape Categories of the Art Renewal Center’s 2016 International ARC Salon.
Mundy is represented by Castle Gallery (Fort Wayne, IN), Eckert & Ross Fine Art (Indianapolis), Gallery 1261 (Denver), and Guarisco Gallery (Washington, DC).
