The Fine Art of Collecting & Curating with Tim Newton
Live Q+A

In this live Q+A, collector and American Masters curator Tim Newton will discuss such topics as developing taste, training your eye, and learning from well-curated exhibitions, while sharing personal stories and anecdotes from his 27-year collecting journey. He will also speak to the origins and motivation behind American Masters, now in its 10th year, as well as offer “behind-the-art” stories of several important pieces in this year’s anniversary exhibition.

Patron’s Circle members, collectors, club members, and special guests are invited to preview the American Masters 2018 exhibition during this meet-and-greet reception with the exhibiting artists. This is your opportunity to experience the numerous works of art featured in this year’s American Masters before the Gala & Sale; ask questions about the work; meet the artists and other collectors from around the country, and more.

Continuing Light: A Journey of Painting & Friendship - Opening Reception

Patrons’ Gallery (Second Floor)

Continuing Light, an American Masters exhibition on view in the Patrons’ Gallery, highlights the artwork and enduring kinship of three top landscape and maritime painters: William R. Davis, Don Demers, and Joseph McGurl. Please join us for an opening reception in their honor, concurrent with the American Masters VIP Preview Reception. The artists will be in attendance.

American Masters Gala & Sale
Friday, October 12, 6:00-8:00 pm

7 pm: Awards Announcements
7:30 pm: Draw for Art Purchases
 

This premiere event of American Masters — attended by exhibiting artists and collectors from around the country— is attendees’ first opportunity to purchase artwork through a ballot-box draw. At 7p.m., three Best of Show awards will be announced (Patrons’ Choice, Artists’ Choice,  and the 10th Anniversary Curator’s Choice).

At 7:30, winning ballots for art purchases will be drawn. Those wishing to have the first opportunity to purchase artworks must purchase either a ticket to attend the Gala & Sale or an absentee ballot. (See Gala & Sale tab for full details.) Cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres and live jazz musicians. Space is limited, reserve your ticket today!

To celebrate American Masters 10th anniversary, we are honoring eight extraordinary exhibiting artists in their 80s and 90s. These artists have not only been important to American Masters but have also made innumerable contributions to the realist-art community: Douglas Allen, Daniel E. Greene, Max Ginsburg, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David A Leffel, Richard Schmid, Burton Silverman, and John Stobart will be interviewed by fellow artists and art professionals and will receive Lifetime Achievement awards. 

Price $35 ($25 for members)

NYC Dialogues: Fine Art & Finance

Thursday, October 18, 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Join us at the Salmagundi Club for this American Masters panel discussion presented by Allison Malafronte of Art Independent. We’ll be discussing the economics of the contemporary art world, including how value is created around art, art as investment, artists who have successfully applied business strategies to selling their artwork, and more. Panelists announced shortly.
